notes and links feb 21
The Feb 28 and March 7th classes will meet at Berkeley for the Art, Technology, and Culture Colloquium. Feb 28 is Rachel Green and will be presented at Kroeber Hall the lecture begins at 7:30 and we will meet at the back of the hall. Make sure you give yourself time to park, if you are having difficulty getting a ride post to the 104 list.
March 7th is I (heart) Powerpoint by David Byrne this event will NOT be at the above location, though it will be on Berkeley campus. I shall post again as the date approaches with the proper information.
The assignment for these days is to blog both the lecture and the topic.
A couple of notes from the lecture: Blade Runner based on "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" irrevocably changed our view of the future:
In case you have not read the Vannever Bush piece As We May Think you can find a free copy in the umich archives, and blog it if you want.
Finally a few ideas for blog entries:
Ted Nelson, Xanadu Project
Douglas Englebart (NLS)
William Burroughs cut ups
enjoy

A couple of notes from the lecture: Blade Runner based on "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" irrevocably changed our view of the future:
Scott's Blade Runner, although a financial failure at first, may be the most influential film of the last 25 years. In terms of the visual look of the film, this is hard to dispute. Blade Runner changed what the future looked like. Almost every vision of the future we have seen since has copied it.On another note the quote used in class was from Valis.
